As I mentioned in my last post, I've really been enjoying the whole Argent Tournament area. I've even been enjoying "dueling" other jousters. (*gasp*) This may come as a shock to those few people I've actually dueled. Generally when I get annoyed enough that somebody wants to duel me, I accept the duel, and then just run away. For whatever reason (probably mostly because I usually get schooled), I just don't enjoy dueling as a mage.
But dueling as a jouster is a different story. Probably because I win. So, today I'll break my little secret as to how I win every duel since I implemented this strategy. It's essentially a game of get ahead and stay ahead. That's it. So here's what you do:
- Make sure you have all 3 sheilds up when you start and your shield action button isn't on cooldown.
- Get far enough away to charge your opponent immediately. Maybe it's my latency, but I've always been the one to charge first.
- This should drop a shield from your opponent and put his health lower than yours. If he doesn't immediately put up his 3rd shield, then you get to get even further ahead.
- Now simply stay close, make sure your shield stay up, and spam-attack him with the melee attack.
That's it. If you're ahead of him at health at this point, which you should be, then just keep attacking. I know it will take awhile, but it's pretty much a guaranteed win. Sure, your opponent will attempt to get far enough away to shield break you, but as long as you shadow him, then you don't have to worry about it. Just stay close and keep attacking. I'm sure it's the training that the quests give us that you have to get rid of all of somebody's shields... but really... you don't!

Took me a couple of rounds but i got the hang of it, works perfectly, got to the point i was beating champions with 60% health left. Only drawback is it takes a little longer, however considering you don't lose, it will actually save you time. Thanks for the advice. BTW don't listen to the guy above, obviously a kid with little or no experience, wanting instant gratification.
Oh one thing you may want to consider is when the champion tries to run away to get to charging distance, let him get far enough away to use the throw ability to take a shield away, don't let him get too far away though or he will charge and take your advantage away from you, always keep all your shields up as well, GL.
The minimum distance on the throw is shorter than the charge. In other words, as he's walking away, you're able to throw before you're able to charge. I found that if I used the throw ability, I wasn't always able to charge before they did due to the cooldown. The charge also gets rid of a shield, and since it does more damage (and protects you by not letting them throw/charge), I focused on charge only.
Annother thing to note (stupid me missed it:P) remember to watch your shields timer took me 3 times to realise i was losing my shield due to the countdown
Step 1: Get shields up x 3
Step 2: Make sure shield button is off cd
Step 3: Be the first to charge. Champion usually starts the fight by moving away from you. Once he gets far enough and your charge is available, CHARGE!
Step 4: Stay close to the champion. Every 10-20 secs, champion will start moving away from you. Stand your ground and don't follow. Charge once the charge button is available.
Step 5: Make sure you turn around right after a charge to stay close to the champion.
Step 6: Halfway through the match, you may find that you are out of the arena. If you remain out of arena for too long, you'll have to start the match all over again. Not fun. However, you should have a pretty good HP advantage. Run to the center of the arena, make sure to keep shields up if champion range-attacks you. If you're fast enough, you can probably charge him an extra time.
Note: Keep an eye on your shield timer.
I'm actually going to put up another post (yes, this will be my third) that will use all of the abilities. I've already posted about the charging. Yes, please use it.
I've never had to start over for being outside of the arena though. Were you just afraid this would happen, or did it actually happen? 'Cause I've been WAY outside, and it hasn't stopped the fight.
I have had the fight restart on many occasions... I have actually put it down to a hidden timer... i have taken too long, rather than location. Often this happens in the middle of the jousting field.

This is probably the best strategy because you can win with almost full health and take them down at 2 shield faster then as if you left them at 3 shield the whole fight. This strategy is almost always a guaranteed win.
Thank you so much for this post. I was hopeless to kill anything. I found that in patch 3.2 that you cannot just spam 1 as it takes too long and the valiant finally says something like, "I don't have all day to fight you. Come back when you are more skilled." So, I found that you spam 1 until he tries to make some distance (every 15 seconds or so), then back away and hit 3 (charge) as soon as possible. The go back to spamming 1.
A strat involving all your abilities:
1. 3 shields up to start (shield off cool down)
2. Wait for champion to walk away to start fight and charge
3. Continue the charge motion a bit longer and swing semi-wide to get facing him again - just far enough away you can throw
4. Spam melee until he walks away
5. Rinse and repeat.
It's fast and I don't even need to heal anymore.
